Swedish Cleantech Firm Catator Joins Ammonia Energy Association to Boost Green Hydrogen Innovations
Swedish cleantech company Catator has joined the Ammonia Energy Association (AEA) as part of its strategic growth to advance green hydrogen technologies. Specializing in hydrogen and fuel cell solutions, Catator sees ammonia as a key energy carrier in the green hydrogen economy. With over ten years of expertise in ammonia cracking, Catators innovative CataLite and CataRex technologies are designed to make ammonia reactors more efficient, compact, and eco-friendly. Catator’s CEO, Tarras Delin, expressed excitement about collaborating within the AEA community, beginning with the release of an ammonia cracking white paper and attending the AEA’s annual conference in New Orleans. AEA’s Executive Director, Trevor Brown, welcomed Catator, noting the value of their expertise in driving global decarbonization through ammonia and hydrogen technologies. Founded in 2004, the AEA supports sustainable ammonia use, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions across the ammonia value chain by 2050.

Chimbusco Pan Nation Completes First Biofuel Delivery in Singapore, Supporting Global Zero-Emission Goals
Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical (CPN), a Hong Kong-based bunker service provider, successfully completed its first biofuel delivery in Singapore on October 16, 2024. The delivery consisted of 1,000 metric tons of B24 marine biofuel for Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation’s 145,400 dwt containership, YM Witness. Built in South Korea, the vessel is equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) or ‘scrubbers’ and was bunkered in Singapore. Yang Ming Marine, which began its collaboration with CPN earlier this year, has already bunkered other vessels with sustainable fuel, including the YM Inception and YM Masculinity. The biofuel, a blend of 24% B100 biodiesel and marine fuel oil, is certified by ISCC-EU and is known to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 84%, aligning with global environmental initiatives. CPN has seen growing demand for its B24 biofuel, with companies like Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and Swire Shipping joining efforts to advance zero-emission goals.

Wuhu Shipyard Launches
Chinese Wuhu Shipyard has successfully launched "Frida," the second methanol-ready, 14,600 dwt Orca class multipurpose vessel commissioned by Germany’s SAL Heavy Lift, a leading maritime heavy-lift and project cargo carrier. The launching ceremony took place on October 31, 2024, at Wuhu Xinlian Shipbuilding, marking a milestone in SAL’s commitment to sustainable shipping solutions. "Frida" is the second of five planned vessels in this class, following "Elise," which was launched earlier this year. These vessels, ordered in 2022, feature a length of 149.9 meters, a width of 27.2 meters, and advanced technologies such as hybrid propulsion, 800-ton fully electric cranes, and shore power compatibility, all aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Classed by DNV and powered by Wärtsilä’s methanol-capable engines, the vessels align with SALs goal for climate-neutral operations. "Frida" is scheduled for delivery in January 2025, joining "Elise" in the long-term transport of offshore wind turbine components for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. The remaining Orca class vessels, Patricia, Carlotta, and Vera, are under construction and are anticipated to enhance SAL’s fleet in 2025.
