Seaspan Energy and MOL Complete First LNG Bunkering for Car Carrier in Vancouver
Canadas Seaspan Energy and Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) have successfully completed the LNG bunkering of the MOL-operated car carrier, Lake Herman, in Vancouver, marking a significant milestone in maritime sustainability. On March 1, 2025, Seaspans 7,600 cbm bunker vessel, Seaspan Garibaldi, delivered LNG to the 7,000 CEU car carrier via ship-to-ship transfer at English Bay. This operation establishes MOL as the first Japanese shipping company to conduct LNG bunkering in Western North America and represents the first such refueling for an LNG-fueled car carrier in the region. Industry leaders hailed this achievement as a major step toward expanding the availability of LNG as a low-carbon alternative in North America, with Seaspan Energy emphasizing its commitment to enhancing clean fuel supply chains. The event follows Seaspan Energys recent accreditation by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and builds on its growing LNG bunkering operations along the West Coast.
