Rear Admiral Wayne Arguin to Headline NAMEPA Environmental Event Latest Approaches and Awards Feature in October

September 23, 2024-  NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association) is honored to announce that Rear Admiral Wayne Arguin, the United States Coast Guard’s Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, will open its annual Marine Environment Protection Conference with his perspective on “Innovation and Environmental Responsibility: Breaking Free from the Status Quo in Maritime”.  The Conference will be held on October 24th beginning at 1300hrs at the Westin Times Square in New York City.

“Hearing from the front lines in these turbulent times is essential to being successful in the maritime industry,” stated NAMEPA Chairman, Joseph Hughes.  “In this rapidly changing world, it is important to hear directly from our leadership as these conditions evolve.”

NAMEPA’s event will be held just three weeks after the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee’s meeting on updates to the GHG reduction strategy.  It is expected that Admiral Arguin’s remarks will reference those recent developments, as well as other environmental initiatives coming forward in the near future.

“The rules of engagement are changing at lightning speed” observed NAMEPA Co-Founder and CEO Carleen Walker.  “Industry needs to be informed and strategic in its next steps, as the ramifications and investment are profound.”

October 24th will also see the presentation of NAMEPA’s Marine Environment Protection Awards at an evening dinner following the conference.  Environmental stewards and innovators will be recognized for their dedication to Save Our Seas.
