UNFCC Climate Report delivers a message of hope stating 1.5 is within reach if immediate action is taken ZESTAs “SHIP ZERO 26” COP Event is the solution for shipping

GLASGOW- August 15, 2021 The Zero Emissions Ship Technology Association (ZESTAs) sees the UNFCC Climate report as a message of hope and believes the authors have made it abundantly clear that it is possible to limit further warming within the next two decades by pursuing the “very low emissions scenario”. As reported, there is no other option; it is global ZESTAs is nailing their colours to the mast by starting at true zero with their unprecedented SHIP ZERO Charging to True Zero workshop 1-3 November coinciding with COP 26 in Glasgow, Scotland. ZESTAs SHIP ZERO workshop will be the first ever shipping event to align with the IPCC very low emissions scenario, by not contemplating the use of fossil fuels or any GHG emitting fuel or technology. The simple truth is the time for discussion is past- nothing remains but for us to act. Whatever your beliefs, whatever your passions, whatever your politics, insuring that we, as a society are no longer contributing to the end of life as we know it is imperative. This century is about reckoning - the morals, purpose and goals of society must align with the common good in every aspect of life. Sustainability is not just a goal but a social imperative that transcends our societies and presents us with both opportunities and obligations - and future societies will either praise us or damn us for our actions today observed Brent Perry, CEO, Sterling PlanB, Chair of ZESTAs Board of Directors.

The World Maritime Universitys (WMU) research and capacity building programme on Empowering Women for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Empowering Women Programme) has been endorsed as a Decade Action of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade). The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (IOC-UNESCO) announced the endorsement on World Oceans Day, 8 June 2021. WMUs Empowering Women Programme is generously sponsored by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), with additional support from The Nippon Foundation, and is delivered through a multidisciplinary team at the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute. The Programme will enhance capacity to explore and promote women's empowerment and gender equality in the conduct of ocean science and in science-dependent governance systems. Research findings will identify key barriers and good practice contributing to a proposed Strategy and Action Plan to help deliver equal opportunities for full participation and leadership by women at all levels of ocean science under the Ocean Decade. The Programme will enhance ongoing collaborations with partners including intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, research institutes, universities, and individuals to deliver substantive research outputs contributing to transformative actions. Regarding the endorsement, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU said, The Ocean Decade provides a golden opportunity to achieve gender equality in ocean science. I firmly believe that through a range of initiatives, the Empowering Women Programme, delivered by the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute, will enhance the capacity to explore and promote womens empowerment and gender equality in the conduct of ocean science, as well as in science-dependent governance systems. The Programme is committed to contributing transformative actions to empower women from all backgrounds for the Ocean Decade. We could not be more pleased that the importance of this Programme has been duly recognized by IOC-UNESCO with recognition as an official Ocean Decade Action. The IOC-UNESCO Decade Action endorsement of the Empowering Women Programme is a milestone in WMUs involvement in the Ocean Decade, and furthers the Universitys substantive efforts to promote gender equality in line with Goal 5 of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It recognizes that WMUs Empowering Women Programme will play a central role in supporting the Ocean Decade mission to catalyze transformative ocean science solutions for sustainable development. Through advancing womens participation in ocean science at all levels, the Programme supports the achievement of the Ocean Decade vision by advocating for the people we need for the ocean we want.

In a marina, people occasionally fall off a deck or dock. If there's stray electrical current in the water, the accident is potentially deadly. The solution to avoid this scenario is to install an ELCI system, which automatically shuts off the AC power supply if a ground issue is detected. Hubbell Marine offers a variety of ELCI Adapter Kits incorporating its proven 30A or 50A shore power inlets to provide a matched look onboard. Hubbell Marine ELCI Adapter Kits come with a shore power inlet and one or two blank matching housings for adding a third-party sensor, or also a circuit breaker. The included mounting plates fit most ELCI components, utilizing industry-standard hole spacing for simple installation. Like its shore power inlets, Hubbell ELCI Adapter Kits are polished stainless steel. A durable white non-metallic material is optional for the 30A model. Ideal for OEM or refit use, quality construction and self-closing covers ensure protection from the weather and a long service life. Stainless steel mounting hardware is included. The complete ELCI Adapter Kit with inlet and two blank housings is offered in 30A, 125V stainless steel (HBL303SSELCI), 30A, 125V non-metallic (HBL303NMELCI) and 50A, 125/250V stainless steel (HBL504SSELCI). Hubbell Marine offers seven kit configurations for specific applications. Contact Hubbell Marine Electrical Products, 40 Waterview Dr., Shelton, CT 06484 USA. +1-727-304-7638.

June 23, 2021: The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) is pleased to announce that corporate member, Genco Shipping & Trading (NYSE: GNK), will be sponsoring an international beach cleanup day on June 30th, 2021. Genco offices in New York, Denmark and Singapore will be joining NAMEPA in efforts to Save Our Seas on a global level. While many people are trying to escape the summer heat and engage in COVID-19 safe outdoor activities, the beaches of the world become accidental dumping grounds to excessive amounts of trash.

Dedicated to environmental stewardship and sustainability, NAMEPA and Genco are well versed in the volume of debris that ends up in our ocean every day and are actively working to mitigate its impacts . NAMEPA recently received the Green4Sea Award for their CSR/ESG (Corporate Social Responsibility/Environment, Social and Governance) Maritime Sustainability Program, the first known standards program for maritime industry. Genco, being one of the largest dry bulk shipping companies in the world, regularly integrates ESG practices in their operational and strategic decision making, recently receiving high marks on the Webber ESG scale. In 2019, Genco and NAMEPA teamed up on a local level and cleaned up a Coney Island , which resulted in over 300 pounds of trash being collected.

Once again, Genco and NAMEPA will team up, but in an effort to enhance their impact have invited the Genco Denmark and Singapore offices to join. All offices will descend upon their local beaches so that everyone across the globe can continue to enjoy our waterways. To showcase their dedication behind efforts to Save Our Seas, senior leadership from all organization offices will be participating.
