August 15, 2022: Contestants for SHIPPINGInsight’s 2022 SHARK TANK are now being accepted for start-ups and new technologies and services to compete for the prestigious SHIPPINGInsight Innovation Award as a part of  SHIPPINGInsight 2022: Decade of Demand Conference and Exhibition being held October 11-13^th at the Stamford Hilton in Connecticut.

Contestants (“Chum”) in the SHARK TANK will face a battery of shipowners and investors who will examine their thesis, evaluate their value proposition, and decide whether to invest in their concepts ((using fictitious funds). The winner of the SHARK TANK will be the recipient of SHIPPINGInsight’s Innovation Award. There will be a total of 6 participants selected from the pool of entries. Interested participants should submit their pitch in the form of a PowerPoint (in pdf format for security) complete with project outline, prospective market, financial parameters and short-medium-long term goals. “Since we started SHARK TANK, we have seen new products and services take flight in the maritime space with roughly 80% receiving investment attention,” claims Carleen Lyden Walker, SHIPPINGInsight’s Chief Evolution Officer.  “Most of our entrants gain the notice of shipowners and investors keen to support their evolution and growth as many of the participants find funding or sponsors for their innovations.”

The SHIPPINGInsight Innovation Award is presented annually to recognize a solution provider for the successful development of an innovative initiative that advances the state of the art in meeting ship and fleet optimization goals.  The 2021 Innovation Award was presented to signol which was presented due to their effective execution of a platform designed to prompt mariners to reduce emissions.

SHIPPINGInsight is proud to attract such innovative products and services to its SHARK TANK every year from all around the world and are excited to see the “Chum” of 2022.

This year’s lineup of “Sharks” includes Marina Hadjipateras of Trail Mix Ventures, Jack Noonan of Binnacle LLC, Rich Pruitt of Carnival Corporation and James Thomas of Thomas Maritime.

SHIPPINGInsight is in its 11^th year of providing a platform for fleet management and solution providers to exchange views and information on strategies for the maritime industry to accelerate change in order to meet the demands of society, regulations, operational risk, crew welfare and protection of the environment. Its program addresses the complex areas of decarbonization, digitalization, disruption, defense and decisions.  Technical sessions on fleet management optimization, fuel and bunkering, energy alternatives, regulatory compliance challenges, cyber security, and safety on the high seas are also a feature.

August 9, 2022- MARITIME COMMONS- The world's major classification societies will be playing a prominent role in SHIPPINGInsight 2022- the Decade of Demand being held October 11-13^th at the Stamford Hilton in Stamford, CT.  Top leadership from ABS, DNV and LR will all be on hand to share their insights on industry’s challenges—and solutions—as Platinum Partners, with other class societies expected to join shortly.

Chris Wiernicki, CEO of ABS, will be kicking off the event focusing on what is Driving the Decade of Demand on October 11^th with a roundtable discussion on the topic to follow, moderated by Roy Bleiberg of ABS and featuring Natasha Brown of IMO, Randy Giveans of Gaslog, environmental champions and shipowners.  Keegon Plaskon of ABS will also be driving the discussion at the Regulatory Compliance Challenges Deep Dive, featuring Tom Hudson of MOL Group. 

DNV’s CEO Knut Orbeck-Nilssen will open Day 2 of SHIPPINGInsight with a keynote on “Closing the Gap Between Aspiration and Reality”, which will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the “Demand for Digitalization” led by Simon Mockler of DNV and featuring Nathalie Sykora, Chief Global Operations Officer at the CSL Group and Torsten Pederson, COO of Seaspan.  They will also host the Deep Dive:  Energy Alternatives session moderated by Jan Hagen Andersen.

Lloyd’s Register President of the Americas, Kevin Humphries, will kick off Day 3 addressing the “Demand for Disruption” which will be followed by a roundtable addressing how maritime executives can effectively respond to this demand and optimize the opportunity for change. This will be followed by SHIPPINGInsight’s SHARK TANK showcasing new technologies for the industry.

SHIPPINGInsight 2022--Decade of Demand event will explore the demands for decarbonization, digitalization, transparency, defense, decisions and disruption in leadership roundtables.  This will be augmented by Deep Dive sessions presenting details about solutions.  Each evening will offer social networking including Celebrity Karaoke and Band Jam.
