Coastal Workboats and EST-Floattech Partner to Pioneer UK's First Commercial Electric Workboat and Charging Station, Backed by £6M Clean Maritime Grant
UK shipbuilder Coastal Workboats has partnered with Dutch energy storage system provider EST-Floattech to equip the UK’s first commercial electric workboat, the E-LUV, and its charging station. With a £6 million ($7.4 million) grant from the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC), Coastal Workboats aims to demonstrate the viability of electric workboats in commercial settings, addressing the need for cleaner maritime operations. The E-LUV will feature 2400 kWh of EST-Floattech’s Octopus High Energy battery system, facilitating fully electric sailing. EST-Floattech will also supply a 1,200 kWh battery system for a shore-based power supply system, enhancing charging capabilities. This collaboration underscores a joint commitment to a more environmentally sustainable maritime future, aligning with UK government initiatives to reduce emissions in the maritime sector.
